Blessed are we

Blessed are those who actually feel they are poor in Spirit...you have the Kingdom
and blessed are you who mourn and feel that grief and desire to repent...for you WILL be comforted.

How can we be humble this week?

How can we be more aware of our failures to love God and love others around us?

Taming the Toungue

Hey guys,

This Sunday we will be continuing our study through James by exposing James 3 to the group.

This should be a good and challenging study as it is encouraging and convicting at the same time. But hey that's what we are all about right? Letting the Word of God speak to us for change? right? okay good!

Also last Wednesday we had a quick little intro into Ephesians 6: 10-20 on the "whole armor of God."

       Any thoughts?

               Any striking feelings?

Lets get a discussion going on this topic as we go through our weeks together and see what this passage can mean for us.

See you guys Sunday morning!

BOOK STUDY!!! James

Hey guys,
I'm very excited to let you know what we will be doing for the next FIVE WEEKS!!! We as a youth ministry are gonna be going through the whole book of James during our Sunday morning meetings. James has 5 chapters and we will complete this study in 5 weeks. Because we are doing a chapter a week it wont be the most verse by verse intense study, but going through them chapter at a time will make it possible for us to dive into the major themes and ideas of the chapters in light of the overall theme of the letter that James had for the Church and what he has for us today!!

Theme:
"James’s primary theme is living out one’s faith, being a doer and not just a hearer of the word. This theme is developed in view of the social conflict between rich and poor and the spiritual conflict between factions in the church. James rebukes his readers for their worldliness and challenges them to seek divine wisdom in working out these problems and getting right with God"

I will be leading chapters 1,3, and 5 while our friend Eric will be leading the teaching and discussions with chapters 2 and 4.

In Preparation for this study it is encouraged that you guys read this book on your own time as we go through it. It's a very powerful book and James will have a lot for us.

Recap from last week. "daily resolutions for God"

Hey guys,
I just wanted to recap what we talked about last week so that we could continue to be encourage by the scriptures and learn about our God.

We read Psalm 44, which we concluded was a psalm about needing or asking for God's help, but also that it was a reminder to us of the promises that God has made and has kept. Also the promises that He continues to stand by.

We also read Romans 8:18-30 on "future glory" and waiting with endurance and patience for the Lord.

Let us keep this in mind as we walk in God's promises daily: that His mercies are for us everyday! Lamentations 3:22-24 "the steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. "The LORD is my portion" says my soul, "therefore I will hope in Him."

Take up your cross daily, and be of Christ. Christ centered relationships, decisions, actions, and words. And His mercy is for us always. Lets make some resolutions just for today...for tomorrow has enough worries of it's own.

Thanks and Giving to the poor

This past week we talked about God's grace for us, and how we don't have to walk in our short comings and failures. We looked at Peter and his relationship to Christ post resurrection and post denying Him 3 times. We talked about being "crowned with glory and honor" (Psalm 8:5) and how Jesus interrupts situations with grace (such as the women caught to be stoned for her sins). How we can walk in this grace and feel called and fit and actually BE Kingdom bringers!

So it was a good week...

So this next week I thought we could put some of it into action. We will be giving Thanks this week and Giving this week, and we will be doing this with some of the more less fortunate and homeless right near our church in Scranton. I have tons of winter hats and gloves and socks to give out to people (or even if we just make it to the soup kitchen to pass out or drop off) and i think this will be good for us. Ministry opportunities  like this open us up and broaden our world view of what is going on so close to home. At the very least it will give us something to be praying for.

So let your parents know and think about it yourselves and i will be getting in touch with you guys this week about making this happen for sunday.

We will have Youth Leaders going with us, Pastor Matt Miller is willing to come as well, and we would be leaving at 9am from church and just walking down together. I will keep you all informed as the week goes on and i will be trying to contact parents and all that good stuff.
